I was working on the assumption that we have higher standard for what 
we shipped in our stable releases.

This is fair enough, but that do not really answer my question.

Sure, but we still ship a 3-year old package that has easily fixable
issue and is several releases behind the upstream version.

Should I do an NMU ?
