Where did you get the idea that maintainers have a veto regarding TC decisions?

BTW if you were to express your opinion here:

in the form of an expression of opinion (e.g. by putting something like
"I think" in front of it) rather than presenting it as though it were a
fact, you would be much less provocative, which might lead to a more
constructive discussion overall.
