I think the current list of three is not much worse than it already was.

It could be much improved by making it more obvious that the heading is
a heading. Even if we're unable to stop headings having a checkbox, we
could change the text and the hierarchy slightly to be something like
this:

	[ ]  === Debian Desktop Environments:
	[x]  ... Gnome
	[ ]  ... Xfce
	[ ]  ... KDE
	[ ]  ... Cinnamon
	[ ]  ... MATE
	[ ]  ... LXDE
	[ ]  ... LXQt
        [ ]  === Common tasks:
	[ ]  ... web server
	[ ]  ... SSH server
	[x]  ... standard system utilities
	[ ]  === Special tasks (a.k.a Blends):
	[ ]  ... astronomy (Debian Astro)
	[ ] ... games and fun (Debian Games)
	[ ] ... life sciences and medicine (Debian Med)

That looses the (apparently useless) print server, to avoid making the
menu any longer, and uses the line for another header (suggestions for a
better name welcome).

It also explicitly rather than implicitly selects Gnome so it's obvious
what we mean.

The desktop= preseed might be broken by that, but I suspect that it's
already broken from my recent test (I need to confirm that), so we
should probably make sure that that works and then make sure that it
also works for one to specify e.g. desktop=kde and have KDE selected by
default in this menu in that case.

I don't know how well speakup, or the other UIs might deal with '==='.

Would that cheer people up without needing a major rewrite of tasksel?

Cheers, Phil.
