Putting it another way, then, I expect there are some people who will not want systemd on their GNU/Linux systems. I don't think it matters if their reasons are technical, political, irrational fear or personal dislike of the creator; I'd like them to have that choice and for it to work as well as possible. Whatever init system we use on the non-Linux ports (which will certainly not be systemd), I expect it will be fully available to Debian GNU/Linux installs, with init scripts that we'd have to maintain already for the sake of our ports.
