zh_TW.Big5 is already present in potato, zh_CN.GB2312 is also present,
but it is not yet compiled (/usr/share/i18n/locales/zh_CN). I've
already report it as a bug (see bug #38553).

T.H.Hsieh has also filed a bug report against xlib6g for Chinese locale
support in X (bug #34600). We are just waiting for the corresponding
maintainers to correct the problems. :)

|BTW: other than compile the locale data in, one also want to add some
|more aliases in the /usr/share/locale/locale.alias and
|/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/locale.alias . At least for GB code, there
|should be:
|zh_CN.GB2312
|zh_CN
|zh_CN.eucCN
|chinese-gb (This one is used in xemacs with mule supported and really
|a bad hack).
|
|For Big5, there at least be:
|zh_TW.big5
|chinese-big5
|
|There might be more for zh_TW.cns(?) But since it is practically dead,
|So... Hope 'Big' guy start to use it if they want it to live. I guess
|they spent a lot of energy on that charset and X11 supports it too.

If you these additions are necessary, I hope you can file bug reports
against the relevant packages. The maintainers will then determine how
to cater for your needs. (Install the package 'bug' for easy
bug-reporting :)
