【来自 Webb.it 的消息】 Federico Di Gregorio 撰写了一篇关于 Debian 参与
[8]webb.it 会议的[9]报导。本会议于05月09日到11日在义大利的 Padova 举行，进行
超过 1000 场的研讨会。义大利的 Debian 玩家和许多对自由软体有兴趣的朋友互相交

【Debian MIA 调查】 James Troup [10]公告他将对一些失踪（missing in action，
MIA）的开发人员采取行动。他在03月12日对 191 位似乎停止活动的 Debian 开发人员
寄出询问信件。其中 34 封竟被退件而无法送达，此外有 28 位要求退休，10 位表示
仍在参与开发工作，而一共有 90 位开发人员未在两个月的期限内回覆。近期内部份人
员的资格将被取消。

【选单中使用预设图示？】 有人[15]建议当应用程式没有提供图示时，在
window-manager 的选单中，是否要为该程式加上一个预设的图示。Lars Wirzenius
[16]反对这个构想，他认为图示是一个程式的视觉象徵，不应该是任意的图案。

【一些相当重要的孤儿套件】 Martin Michlmayr [17]表示他已将数个套件列为孤儿套
件。这些套件中大部份不是有影响发行的重大 bug，就是已经有一阵子不是由套件维护
者进行更新了。他希望能有自愿者能出来修?正这些 bug，进而接手这些套件的维护工作。

【lm-sensors 的重大更新】 David Maze [18]指出，libsensors1 的 binary
interface 在 lm-sensors 2.6.5 到 2.7.0 间改变了，但函式库的 soname
并没有更改。虽然正确的做法应该是由该程式的作者来做变更 soname 的动作，但目前
他们仍未做出回应。因此，David 建议由他先来更动 Debian 中该函式库的 soname。

【翻译者变更文件格式所引发的争议】 在 Apache 的维护小组与法文翻译小组之间产
生了一些[19]争议，原因是法文版套件说明的翻译格式与原本的格式不一致。
Matthias Urlichs [20]表示，他认为有足够的理由更改格式，因为英文文句通常比对
应的译文要来得短。

【Testing 的安全性支援】 Chris Leishman 写了一封[21]信，叙述为什么 Debian
也应该要有 testing 的安全性支援。Matt Zimmerman [22]解释说已修正的套件会自动
由 unstable 转到 testing 中。如果 unstable 尚末包含修正套件的话，为 testing
及 unstable 制作修正套件其实只是浪费时间。

【参加 DebConf 3】 Joachim Breitner [23]问道，如果还不是正式的开发人员，[24]
DebConf 是否值得参加呢？Andreas Tille [25]回答说，过去在 Bordeaux 举行的
DebConf 是他最具生产力的时期了，此外，最棒的是会场有很多高手可以帮忙解决问题。

【让 GNOME 字型设定生效】 Sander Smeenk [26]发现明明他的字型设定都有储存起
来，但是当他重新进入 X 时，这些设定都没有生效。Ross Burton [27]说这是因为
Sander 并不是用 gnome-session 进入 GNOME，因此 XSETTINGS 资料库无法被程式取
用（not populated）。在这种情况下，必需要在启动 X 的命令稿中载入
gnome-settings-daemon。Mateusz Papiernik 则[28]说明了这些设定要如何写到设定
档中。

【说明文件译本】 Denis Barbier [29]注意到目前对说明文件（manpages）译本到底
该放到原来的说明文件套件中，还是要放到 manpages-xx 里，大家并没有共识。如果
一份说明文件译本一开始被放在 manpages-xx 里，但后来又被纳入原来的说明文件套
件中（例如它被程式开发者放到 tarball 中）的话，如此缺乏共识将造成冲突。

【供准开发人员使用的套件库】 Daniel K. Gebhart [30]公告 [31]Debian Mentors
Project 正式开始运作了。这个计画提供一个套件库，供已申请但尚未成为 Debian
开发人员的朋友使用。因为只有 Debian 开发人员才能直接将套件上传到 Debian
官方套件库中，欢迎这些准开发人员利用本计画提供的服务。

【将 non-free 文件分装】 Colin Watson [32]宣布他终于将 doc-linux 中
non-free 的部份自原套件中分离出来了。分离出来的新套件为
doc-linux-nonfree，目前正在等待 ftpmaster 的审核。因为本套件版权宣告的文件相
当庞大，审核时间可能会有点长。只有不到 10 % 的 HOWTO 及 mini-HOWTO 文件被归
类为 non-free。

【Debian GNU/FreeBSD 里程碑】 Robert Millan [33]表示他的 GNU/FreeBSD
chroot jail 终于可以独立运作（self-hosting），而他也能在其中制作 glibc
2.3、GCC 2.3.2 和 binutils 套件。他提供了 [34]tarball 供大家下载，不过他也
明白指出，这个 tarball 除了拿来开发及修正 bug 外，是没有任何用处的。

【以 DFSG 检验 LDP 预设授权的方式】 Branden Robinson 详细[35]研究了[36]Linux
Documentation Project（LDP）的[37]预设授权方式。它是被 LDP 文件广为采用的授

【新 IPv6 套件】 Fabio Massimo Di Nitto[39]宣布套件档案库将有一些改变。到目
前为止，我们的策略都是让所有的 IPv6 套件版本编号和 main 中的同名 IPv4
套件相同。现在，打破这个规则的时候到了，将有两个套件不依循这个规则，以加快
测试程序。一个套件是 ntp-unstable，这是 ntp 的 CVS 最新版（snapshot），除了
其中一个部份外，其馀完全支援 IPv6。另一个是 Daniel Stone 制作的 XFree86
4.3，其中包括了 X.org 提供的 IPv6 patch。

【Debian 宪章修正案】 Manoj Srivastava 提出一份修改 Debian 宪章的[40]正式提
案，希望能在选举或一般决议上引进 Condorcet/Clone Proof SSD 计票。本修正案是
由选举方式委员会（election methods committee）在相当的研究后所得到的结果。这
份修正案已有足够人数覆议，规定的[41]讨论期限到 UTC 时间2003年05月30日

【测试新的投票命令稿】 Manoj Srivastava 正在[42]举办投票来测试新的投票命令稿
（voting scripts）。新的命令稿无法在 potato 上执行（而 vote.debian.org 正好
是用 potato），不过现在暂时不研究这个问题，本次票选的统计将在他自己的机器上
进行。因为此次票选有两个候选项目需要有过半数人的支持（super majority）才能算
胜选，所以这也是测试这个功能的好机会。本次票选的对象，是在九个颜色中挑一个颜
色，Manoj 并附注说：『愿最好的颜色获胜。』。

【增加对 Ogg 媒体格式的支援】 Ray Dassen [43]指出，在 [44]RFC 3534
中已正式指定了一个 MIME type 给 Ogg bitstream format。他希望 Debian
能尽量支援这个 MIME type。Ogg bitstream format 是用来包装经 Ogg Vorbis
编码后的音讯资料（The Ogg bitstream format is the container format
employed for the well-known OggVorbis audio code.）。Ray

Caldera，一家经营 GNU/Linux 相关业务的公司）宣称 Linux [47]侵权的事件对
Debian 是否有影响。 Ray Dassen [48]认为，目前只有来自 SCO 这家快过气的公司单
方面的主张和谣言，他们到现在还未能提出任何有力的证据。相 反的，有确切的证据
显示 SCO 本身违反了 GPL，因为他们在其私有的（Unixware？）核心中引用了 Linux
