【关于在 Mac 上使用 Debian 的讨论】 Slashdot 上[4]有人在抱怨在 iBook
上安装 Debian 很困难，他也提到『Knoppix 确实把在 x86 机器上使用 Debian
这件事简化了，但在 Mac 上有没有类似的东西呢？』在讨论中，有些读者认为安装
Debian 并没有这么困难（在 Mac 上安装也许还要更简单些），而且相信大家都希望

【和 Jamie Zawinski 吵起来了】 [14]xscreensaver 的作者 Jamie Zawinski 在
LiveJournal 上[15]抱怨 Branden Robinson [16]是超爱引起争端的家伙（gigantic
flaming dick）。我们实在搞不清楚为什么 Jamie [17]认为Branden
给他的回应是在挑起争端。Branden 在信中只是客观地表达他的意见。Jamie
在网路上发现一个 Debian 的非官方 XFree86 套件里的 changelog

【Debian 选单系统现况】 Bill Allombert
[18]表示再次有人积极地维护选单系统罗！Bill 和 Morten Brix Pedersen
修正了套件中 80 个以上的 bug，并且他们为了这个套件在 Alioth
上开了一个[19]计画。此套件也开始[20]支援国际化（internationalisation）。他
还[21]提到，套件中的图示不需再遵守文件中只能使用特定的 24 种颜色的规定。

【专为科学运算制作的 Quantian】 Dirk Eddelb?ttel [22]发表了一份由
[23]Knoppix 修改而成的 [24]Quantian。[25]Quantian 和 Knoppix
的不同之处，在于前者加入了 quantitative 或 data-driven
领域应用或是理论方面的使用者专用的程式。当然，它还是保有原来 Knoppix
中所有令人印象深刻的特点；几乎能针对所有的硬体进行自动设定。如果大家对这个
计画有相当的兴趣的话，它也许会成为 Debian 的子计画之一。

【加强 Debian 对印度语文的支援】 Jaldhar Vyas
[26]询问大家是否有兴趣针对加强 Debian
对印度语文的支援成立一个子计画。此刻，GNOME 和 KDE
对这方面都已经有相当程度的支援。他的目标是要将支援印度文的软体制作成
Debian 套件，或是，如果需要的话，自行撰写这一类的软体。此外，还要协
助现有的软体进行 i18n 或 l10n，并且在印度推广 Debian。

【音效档案的使用限制】 Roberto Gordo Saez
[27]想知道如果有一个套件是以自由软体的形式散布，他是不是可以把其中的音效档

【丛集专用的 Knoppix 光碟】 Slashdot 上[30]报导了 Wim Vandersmissen 制作的

【编译 64 位元 Sparc Kernel】 Martin Pitt [44]想编译最近的 2.5 kernel 供
sparc64 平台使用。sparc64 平台使用 64 位元的核心，但应用程式还是 32
位元的。他需要一个 cross-compiler，而现有的 egcs64 他觉得似乎太旧了点。Ben
Collins 向他[45]解释说，这个编译器虽然旧，但它还是可以用来编译
kernel。而且只要修正一个 bug，你就能得到一个可用的 kernel。Ben
在信中也提到，gcc-3.3 也能用来编译 64 位元的 kernel，但是它编译出来的

Tracking System）新增了两个标签（tag）。『[48]lfs』用来标示关于大档案
支援方面（larg e file supprt）的 bug；『[49]ipv6』则是用来标示 IPv6 方
面的 bug。Guido G?nther [50]表示，如果这些 bug 都有相对的标签，那么应该
也要再增加对各平台的标签，以标示出问题是在什么平台上发生的。不过，James

【文件中的恒常章节】 Richard Stallman
的一封信引起了一连串的[52]讨论，其中再度探讨了由 GNU [53]Free
Documentation License（GFDL）所衍生出来的问题：如果一个文件包含了恒常章节
（invariant section），依据 Debian 的条文，它会被归类为非自由（non-free）
文件。看来 GFDL 是一个相当危险的授权证，并非只要使用 GFDL，就能保证该文件
为自由文件。

的嵌入式系统中使用 Debian 套件管理系统。因此，他研究了数个有关的计画，

【GNU Emacs 的手册可能会被归类为 non-free】 J廨□e Marant
