【SPI 近况】 Nils Lohner [2]辞去了 [3]Software in the Public Interest（SPI）
总裁的职务，Ean Schuessler 则被[4]任命为新的副总裁。SPI 提供包含 Debian 在内
的数个自由软体计画法律和财务上的帮助。在最近一次的董事会中对章程委员会（by-

【专访：无愧于以 Linux 为名】 [9]The Age 本周刊载了 Sam Varghese 撰写的一篇
[10]专访，文中他访问了 Debian 文件发行小组（Debian Press Team）的一位成员。

【3.0r1 升级光碟】 虽然在前一阵子的假期中因为[15]硬体出了问题造成一些延误，
Steve McIntyre 终于还是完成了供 Debian 3.0 更新至 3.0r1 光碟映像档的[16]制作

【Debian 移植到 x86-64 上的可能性】 Bart Trojanowski [19]表明他对移植 Debian
到 [20]AMD 即将发表的 x86-64 平台上很有兴趣。[21]x86-64 是 AMD 新的 64 位元
处理器，能同时支援 32 位元及 64 位元运算。Michael Banck 和 AMD 的开放原始码

【Itsy Package Management System】 Josh Narins [24]好奇地想知道现在还在执行
Debian 的最老旧的硬体是什么等级。在一些人提出他们仍在服役中的 [25]486 和
[26]386 使用 Debian 后，话题转到在这些资源有限的环境下，dpkg 执行起来相当
慢。Josh 说他[28]找到一个名为 [29] Itsy Package Management System（iPKG）的
套件管理系统。iPKG 的作者尽力把它设计成和 Debian 的套件管理系统相似，并且能

【自由软体授权是可以终止的？】 最近 [30]Advogato 上[31]讨论到在程式开发者终
止使用如 GNU [32]General Public License（GPL）的授权方式时，若这个动作要追溯
到旧版的程式上是否合法。讨论也延伸到[33]契约法（contract law）在对[34]版权
（copyright license）的强制性和规范力上所扮演的角色（如果有的话），还有自由
软体的授权方式是否具永久性。现在这个部份的定义相当模糊，在各地因为法令的不同
而会有不同的答案。因此，有人提出更新 GPL 的要求，希望在这个具争议性的地方有
更明确的定义。

【网页编码的问题】 Tomohiro Kubotai（久保田智?）[35]发现如果使用多位元编码
（multibyte encoding，如日文的 ISO-2022 和韩文的 EUC-KR），non-ASCII 字元在
自动产生出来的各种语言[36]网页中会造成严重的问题。他指出 ISO-8859-1 和
KOI8-R、EUC-JP 一样是区域性的字元编码方式（而且他们之间相互冲突），因此不应
使用在指定使用其它编码方式的网页中。同时，non-ASCII 字元应该改用 HTML
entities 来表示。

【Kernel 不支援 Ext2？】 Marcel Kolaja [37]注意到对 i386 和 i686 最佳化的两
个 kernel 在编译时对 second extended filesystem（Ext2）的设定不同，后者将支
援 Ext2 这部份编译为模组。[38]Josselin Mouette 和 [39]Daniel Jacobowitz 解释
说这并不是一个 bug，kernel 在启动时会载入包含这些模组的 ramdisk。附带一提，
在 Linux 2.6 中，initrd 将会被 initramfs 取代。

个虚拟套件。他发现 Debian 中有好几个 nameserver 相关套件，而这些套件之间互相
冲突的情况是可以解决的。Michael Poole 则[43]质疑，其实许多相冲突的套件只要经
过适当的设定，是可以共存的，因为这样把他们设定为相互冲突是否不太合适？

【CUPS 和 SSL】 Jeff Licquia 向 GNU TLS 的开发者[51]询问是否可以把 TLS 中
OpenSSL 相容函式库的授权方式改为 GNU [52]Lesser General Public License

【X-box 上的 Debian】 如果你正在物色一个不错的数位录影及家庭娱乐的平台，也许
