Commission）所贊助的 [1]FLOSS 研究報告發表後，史丹福大學的經濟政策研究所策
劃了另一項[2]調查，並希望社群能協助他們完成這項研究。如果您很好奇在（GNU/）
Linux之外是否還有其它新的[3]自由軟體型式的作業系統，您可以看看 ReactOS。它
的目標是要實作一個自由軟體版的 NT。

【Debian 計畫領導人選舉現況】 Manoj Srivastava [4]公告候選人提名時間將正式
結束。各候選人應於 02 月 15 日公開自己的[5]政見，並於 02 月 21 日提出反駁。
David B. Harris 和 Adam Heath 自願安排預計於月底於 IRC 上舉辦的 DPL
辯論會相關事宜。一直到提名時間結束為止，[6]登記參加的候選人有 Moshe
Zadka、Bdale Garbee、Martin Michlmayr 和 Branden Robinson。

【分析 Debian 金鑰資料庫】 Lars Wirzenius 說他對 Debian 金鑰資料庫（Debian
keyrings，GnuPG 和 PGP）做了一些[7]分析。結果顯示有 769 個金鑰在所謂的
strongly connected set
中，也就是說，這些金鑰經由相互的簽署可以驗證彼此。不過，他也[8]發現有 487
個金鑰不在 strongly connected set 中。此外，Peter Palfrader 也提到他對
Debian 金鑰資料庫所做的[9]信任度分析（trust analysis）。

【循環式時間伺服器負載分擔計畫】 Adrian von Bidder [10]希望使用固定 IP
的人可以在機器上執行 ntpd 並經由 [11]time.fortytwo.ch 的 DNS 循環分配（DNS
round robin）提供給公眾存取。這麼做的原因是因為一些開放公眾存取的時間伺服器
（如列在 ntp.org 中的）有負載過重的問題。稍後他[12]說他得到了數個正面的回應
，不過雖然部份屬於 Debian 計畫的機器上有執行 NTP 伺服器，這些機器的管理者並
沒有回覆他。

【為什麼有數個不同版本的 BerkeleyDB】 Will Lowe [13]質疑為何 Debian
中會有四個不同版本的 BerkeleyDB。如果同一個程式間接地連結到不同版本的
BerkeleyDB（例如經由 Apache、mod_perl、libberkeley-db-perl
這樣的組合），會造成嚴重的問題。Matthew Wilcox
[14]解釋說這是因為各版本的介面不相容，而且沒有工具可以把現有的資料庫轉成舊
版的格式。

【將 mICQ 從 Debian 中移除？】 Martin Loschwitz [15]提議將 [16]mICQ 自
Debian 中移除，因為原作者在其中[17]藏了一段有害的程式（harmful easter
egg），用來讓套件維護者製作的 mICQ 套件無法運作。Anthony Towns
[18]希望所有的套件維護者在製作新的套件前能先檢視原作者改了些什麼地方。Bran
den Robinson 支持這種想法，並指出他的確會[19]檢視他製作的 XFree86
套件中所有更新的每一行程式碼。後來 R?diger Kuhlmann

【第二輪更改 ITP】 Bas Zoetekouw [22]公告將 Intent To
Package（ITP）錯誤回報更改為 Request For
Packaging（RFP）第二輪的行動即將開始。早先他[23]試著和所有登錄 ITP
的人聯絡，但仍有 143 個套件的登錄人沒有回覆。Luca DeVitis
[24]認為既然已經超過一年沒有人製作這些套件，這表示可能沒有人對那些套件有興
趣，終止這些套件的 ITP 狀態也許是較合適的做法。

【終止套件錯誤狀態的方式】 Joey Hess [25]提醒開發人員 Changelog
檔案中應該只描述套件內容的變更。大家不應該用『* This is not a bug -
closes: #XXX』來標示終止套件的錯誤狀態，而應該把終止的描述寄給
XXX-done@bugs.debian.org 來達成這個目的。這件事[26]以前就有人提過，
不過現在在[27]開發人員參考手冊中對這些程序都有相當清楚的說明。

【Debian 於個案研討中擔綱】 Colm MacC嫫thaigh 和 Colin Whittaker 在
[28]SAGE-IE 上發表一篇以 Debian
為中心的[29]報告，探討系統管理的良好做法。SAGE-IE 是系統管理者手冊（System
Administrators Guild）的愛爾蘭分支。報告中特別介紹了 Debian
健全的政策、一致性（consistency）、安全性及可靠性，並說明何以 Debian
於高可用性（high-availability）、低維護成本應用是極佳的選擇。

【安全小組調查的結論】
去年由安全小組所做的[30]調查，[31]結論終於出爐了。最引人注意的（或者說，最
糟的狀況）是有一位朋友管理約 4000 台使用 potato
的機器，而且這些機器不能隨意進行升級。不過大體上來說，使用 Debian
的管理者都打算使用舊的 stable，直到新的 stable
發行約一年以後，才會進行升級的動作。因此，安全小組將盡力於 2003
年六月底前支援 potato。

【Desktop Linux Summit 上的 Debian】 Debian 發表[32]聲明表示將參與下週於
San Diego 舉行的 [33]Desktop Linux

【著手製作 OpenLDAP 2.1 套件】 因為現有的 OpenLDAP 2.0 在支援 TLS

【維護多國語系文件】 Craig Sanders [38]指出 有愈來愈多的特定語系的套件進入
Debian 套件檔案庫。他建議將這些套件依語系集中存放在 /doc/ 中各語系的子目錄
下。不過，因為他建議的方式是要更動 pool 目錄下的架構而非變更（虛擬）套件的
部份，所以看起來這是不可能實現的。

【授權證和著作權？】 Antoine Mathys
[39]詢問授權證（license）和著作權（copyright）到底有什麼不同。Sean Perry
[40]解譯說授權證是描述授與及保留權利的文件。Branden Robinson
更進一步[41]說明著作權是法律上的概念，授與作者（可轉讓）對其創作所獨有的複
製、修改及發表的權利。

【Debian Zaurus 現況】 Matt Zimmerman 發表 Debian 用於各式手持式系統特別是
Zaurus 的[42]現況。他簡短說明已經完成的工作以及此刻開發工作進行到什麼階段。
舉例來說，[43]Opie套件的開發進行得相當順利，並且正準備要進入 Debian unstable
