Used command line that does NOT work:

qemu-system-x86_64   -m 512    -drive file=./debian-6.0.4-ia64-netinst.iso,index=1,media=cdrom,if=ide

or 
qemu-system-x86_64  -cpu qemu64    -m 512    -drive file=./debian-6.0.4-ia64-netinst.iso,index=1,media=cdrom,if=ide 
or cpu kvm64 or phenom

or just:
qemu-system-x86_64  -cdrom ./debian-6.0.4-ia64-netinst.iso


but with other ISO images it works, following works:
qemu-system-x86_64  -cdrom ./RIPLinuX-13.7.iso
qemu-system-x86_64  -cdrom ./debian-6.0.4-i386-netinst.iso


$ sha256sum *
b7a2edb77c9b6076269bd4adc07beb461ff65c6109bedc69b7d31daccd4c3a7c  debian-6.0.4-i386-netinst.iso
