That was because of hardware problems. And mirroring is not a solution for
that, since people will still be directed to cdimage.d.o and maybe to a mirror
from there. And when the main machine is down there's no way for people to
know what mirrors are available. "Real" solutions for that are possible but
complex, and IMHO a bit overdone in this case.
