Look into pkg_update- it's in -CURRENT, and hasn't yet MFC'd,
but it's certainly a very good start.

There isnt' strictly an equivilent in ports yet, but there is
porteasy (ports/misc/porteasy) which "sortof" counts.

Sometimes it doesn't make sense to throw out the original
implementation on pure whims. It's certainly proven to
be long lasting, and the second-generation ports (openpackages)
look promising too.

I had already said this once, but it fits here well.

It's not necessarily bad if openpackages and debian package tools go their
own way.

Besides, it's debian's principle of attention to correctness, detail rather than
the 'interface' that has resulted in deb package management tools.

If u read 'FreeBSD installation and package tools, past, present and future',
by jordan hubbard, that's not how the ports/packages stuff came into being.
But he also mentions of the new packaging sys. where this is being remedied
upon. And that will be welcome. More the merrier, as larry wall says.....
