I have added a hint, which points to
https://d-i.debian.org/doc/installation-guide/en.amd64/ch06s03.html#network-console
as source for additional info.

The first line setting protocol to ftp is commented out, so it's not actively
used. It shows a possible custom setting.
The used default value is http.
And this fits perfectly to the following /http/ lines :-)
I have added a clarification, to point out the default value.

I should be understandable from the introduction at
https://d-i.debian.org/doc/installation-guide/en.amd64/apbs04.html#preseed-partman
that
'd-i partman-auto/init_automatically_partition select biggest_free'
or
'd-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda'
or similar only point to space on one of your harddisks, which you want
to use for the Debian installation.

How it is used in detail, is defined further below, like:
- which method (regular, lvm, crypto)
- which recipe (atomic, home, multi - or own recipes)
and further specs like filesystems or mountpoints.

Closing this bug.
Thanks for reporting - even if it needed 11 years to get this done :-(
