I don't feel as strongly as Geert. As far as I'm aware, Nvidia are reasonably
supportive of the free software community. I do however need to take a
pragmatic view. It is very important to me personally to have a working
computer quite quickly. However it would be nice to get to the root of this
bug.
Bottom line is that I have till Monday 30-6-2008 to make a decision on the RMA
issue as that is the cutoff date with the company that I bought the MoBo
from.

The NIC that is being recognised here is a PCI add in card. The onboard NIC is
disabled in BIOS. I don't intend trying the onboard again until we've made
some progress with the SATA because it's time consuming and I could happily
live with the add in card. That is unless there is a good reason that I
should.

Yes I have 2 SATA drives attached.

That works! The install went straight ahead with no hangs. It got to the
partitioner and recognised both drives. I aborted the install at that point.

Long hang before getting to the ncurses menus. Then failed to recognise drives
as before.

Syslogs attached.

Had a look at the Abit site and I couldn't even find AN78GS listed in MoBos.
