Bug#425397: tasksel/pkgsel causing Etch netboot install to hang indefinitely

Further information below:
==========================

I have noticed that when I kill the "dpkg-preconfigure --apt" process
during the TASKSEL phase, the install proceeds but then stops at the
configuration of 'Dictionaries-common: Wordlist dictionary':

---------| [!!] Dictionaries-common: Wordlist dictionary |----------

Because more than one wordlist will be available in your system,
Please select the one you'd like applications to use by default.

You can change the default wordlist at any time by running
"select-default-wordlist".

Selecting system's default wordlist:

			american (American English)
			Manual symlinks setting

	<Go Back>

---------------------------------------------------------------------

By selecting 'american' the installation then proceeds again until it
halts once more following the installation of the british wordlist, for
the configuration of the same feature:

---------| [!!] Dictionaries-common: Wordlist dictionary |----------

Because more than one wordlist will be available in your system,
Please select the one you'd like applications to use by default.

You can change the default wordlist at any time by running
"select-default-wordlist".

Selecting system's default wordlist:

			american (American English)
			british (British English)
			Manual symlinks setting

	<Go Back>

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Then it proceeds for a moment, and then stops again!!! For configuration
of the Ispell dictionary:

---------| [!!] Dictionaries-common: Ispell dictionary |----------

Because more than one ispell dictionary will be available in your
system, please select the one you'd like applications to use by
default.

You can change the default ispell dictionary at any time by running
"select-default-ispell".

Selecting system's default ispell dictionary:

			american (American English)
			Manual symlinks setting

	<Go Back>

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I again select 'american' and then it stops again to ask me if I'd like
to change it now that the british dictionary has been installed:

---------| [!!] Dictionaries-common: Ispell dictionary |----------

Because more than one ispell dictionary will be available in your
system, please select the one you'd like applications to use by
default.

You can change the default ispell dictionary at any time by running
"select-default-ispell".

Selecting system's default ispell dictionary:

			american (American English)
			british (British English)
			Manual symlinks setting

	<Go Back>

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally by selecting 'american' the installation continues to the PKGSEL
phase where it stops again after downloading packages and with a similar
stalled process as during the TASKSEL phase, ie. '/usr/bin/perl -w
/usr/sbin/dpkg-preconfigure --apt/. I checked the full command lines
which are of a very similar appearance to those of the TASKSEL phase:

27517 - /usr/bin/perl -w /usr/sbin/dpkg-preconfigure --apt

I then kill process 27517 and the installation proceeds in an automated
fashion.

Does this help at all?
