 ok, tried the space.  using that latest build (much appreciated for the
 pointer)...

 _damnit_ it's still not working - any ideas on how to debug this one?


 also sadly i now have a root password question being asked (which didn't
 happen before), and i specifically want to set up a desktop system
 where nobody has root access, directly: the main user must do sudo.
