Thanks, passing the boot parameter "video=atyfb:off" helps - d-i
then boots using the Creator3D.

Just for the record in case somebody finds this using
a search engine:

1) After the system is installed, one has to manually add this
option to /etc/silo.conf.

2) Even with the boot parameter to change the console device, the
graphics card autodetection for X configures X.Org via debconf to
use the the onboard ATI videocontroller (which is logical as it
checks for an appropriate PCI device and does not care for the
current console device), so the X.Org driver has to be changed to
sunffb afterwards as well.

General issues (not related to d-i):
------------------------------------

- When using X.Org with the sunffb driver, the screen refresh rate
seems to be fixed to 66Hz, even though xorg.conf allows higher
refresh rates. A google search indicates that this is a general
limitation of the sunffb driver and that the refresh rate can possibly
be changed using some OBP setting.

- When starting GNOME, a window telling "Internal error: failed to
  initialize HAL" gets displayed.

- Sound does not work by default, one has to add snd_sun_cs4231
  to /etc/modules.

Karsten
