Could you elaborate a bit on that please?

What exactly did you patch? grub or something else?
Can you give us a diff for your changes?
Can you explain why the patch was necessary and exactly what the failure 
is it solves?

FYI I did a fresh install using a daily netinst image on an EM64T box 
earlier this week and grub installed on that without any problems.
