Sorry about the delay in sorting this out. I've fixed it properly now by
making the newt frontend stop the old progress bar if you try to start a
nested one.

This is also a partman-auto bug. Nested progress bars aren't supported
by cdebconf, and it should not try to use them at present. Following the
above fix (and, indeed, with my refactoring reverted as Frans did),
cdebconf will silently do nothing and leave you at a black screen if you
stop an inner progress bar and then attempt to manipulate the outer one.
This isn't critical as long as said manipulation doesn't take too long,
but it's a UI bug.
