:) that's a question well over my league. may be ping mirrors avaliable
to chosen area / country and sugest the one that pings the fastest? I'm
not sure though.

is there a way to not make it that way? the base installation succeeded,
so I think I had a working system minus grub. I am not sure at all, but
if the install CD had an option to "boot to existing install to recover"
I could have managed to finish the installation.
Again, I'm not sure if that could be done and I'm not sure if I'm asking
for too much :)
