Bug#387483: bug report

Package: installation
Version: etch beta 3

Description:
The debian installer for etch beta 3 did not accept accented letters for the user name. The letters displayed incorrectly and messed the input line.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start installing Debian Etch beta 3 on some computer from the netinst CD.
2. Give a user name containing letters "äöåÄÖÅ".

Expected results:
The accented letters shall cause no problems. They should be probably encoded with UTF-8.

Actual results:
The accented letters get displayed by sequences like "<F6>" in the input line. Cursor is positioned incorrectly in the line after writing the accented characters.

Hardware information:
Processor: Pentium 4
Keyboard: Logitech non-USB keyboard with Finnish layout

System information:
The default kernel and libc of etch beta 3.
