As I wrote, I configured them as LVM physical volumes during the
previous run of the same d-i CD.

This unclear term is taken from the wording of d-i.

Here the exact steps until the problem showed up:

1. I used nothing else than the d-i partition tool on these hard disks
and the hardware doesn't provide any RAID specific support.

2. I created two partitions (type fd) to be used for software RAID
and combined them to a RAID1 /dev/md0 device, but the d-i CD uses
devfs, so it is visible as /dev/md/0 there.

3. I used this /dev/md/0 as a physical volume for LVM.

4. Because of an install problem (Debian bug #382692) I had to reboot.

5. To make a clean start for the next try I decided to delete (but
not erase==wipe) the software==md RAID partitions.

6. Repeating from step 2 the installer presented me with the above
   mentioned error message.
