Comments/Problems:
Booted with grub as follows:
kernel /debian-installer/vmlinuz ramdisk_size=12000 root=/dev/ram rw vga=771
initrd /debian-installer/initrd.gz
boot
As indicated in previous installation report, the system was not able
to detect the CDROM drive if I boot off of the CDROM drive, but it
detects it and the hard drive both fine if I boot off the hard drive
with grub using images from /install on the CD copied to
/boot/debian-installer.
I was trying to install Etch over top of my Ubuntu dapper installation
on my laptop, but I installed Dapper to have / on LVM. When I
finished setting up /boot and selected "Configure the Logical Volume
Manager", after agreeing to commit my partitioning changes, I got an
error screen:
[!!] Partition disks
The current kernel doesn't suport the Logical Volume Manager. You may
need to load the lvm-mod module.
This seems useless since there is no way I could see to load the
lvm-mod volume manager. Does the netinst kernel image not have LVM?
I didn't see, even in expert mode, a way to select that lvm-mod should
be loaded. I was surpised to see this problem especially after the
release notes specifically mention LVM improvments. The installation
manual is silent on this issue as far as I can tell. I will try
poking around a bit more (but not today), and if I figure it out, I'll
update this bug report.
In the mean time, I'm still going to run Ubuntu Dapper. I was hoping
to run Etch on this laptop and will test further updates as time
permits.
