So, the weird thing here is that nothing on the powerpc or boot floppy
side of things is exactly currently in a state of flux. As far as I can
see, the code is exactly the same in the builds that succeeded as the
ones that failed, and it's still the same in the ones that succeeded
again.

Are you sure this isn't an intermittant hardware problem? Do you see any
actual differences in the floppy images that would make some boot and
some not?
