Anyone having a clue how > to remedy this? Gather more information about the hardware in your laptop. A live CD-ROM like Knoppix can help you with that. The trick will probably be blacklisting a module in discover. When it is a brand new laptop, then go back to the shop and ask for laptop that has Linux support.
