Could you please file an installation report [1] for this problem? Especially the lspci information that is asked for will help us. Do you have a SATA hard disk controller? In that case, with the 2.6 kernel, it may be that the SATA driver is blocking access to the CD drive. Could you check if the workaround described in the 4th bullet on [2] works for you?
