Hello again,

I've found another weird behavior: the debian installer halts with an error,
saying "Failed getting release file" on
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian//dists/testing/Release.

However, I can switch to the second console, and enter the following command:

# wget -O - "http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian//dists/testing/Release"; | more

and it works.

This might be a related problem to my previous post:

I just subscribed to the debian-boot list, so that I can try to stay
up-to-date on changes, but in the interim, anyone know what's causing this?
