Maybe you have a corrupt CD image?
If you are interested in a more recent version of Debian,
then I would suggest to try the new debian installer. See
The netinst CD image contains just some basic packages
to allow an installation via network. If there are problems,
then send an EMail to this list.
But it should be mentioned that this is still software
