What are you trying to install ? Please give the sarge netinst cd a try :

http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/sid_d-i/i386/pre-rc2/sarge-i386-netinst.iso

(linked from the d-i web site : http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/).

i am just now installing a asrock sis based athlon system, and it had no
trouble loading that module, but then i use a 2.6 kernel, but i guess the 2.4
kernel also found on the above iso is ok too.
