So the 3c59x module is getting loaded and eth0 is registered. That's for
sure. But it doesn't seem to work. Could you cat /proc/bus/pci/devices,
save the output of that to a floppy, and attach that?

It could be your NIC is simply busted. I quote:

Oct  5 10:25:30 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 6
Oct  5 10:25:30 dhclient: send_packet: Network is down
Oct  5 10:25:30 dhclient: receive_packet failed on eth0: Network is down

ad nauseum. The driver is convinced you don't have anything plugged in
to the card. Certainly it could be a driver mismatch, so
/proc/bus/pci/devices will tell us for sure.

Do also make sure you haven't just made a dumb mistake either ;)
