Comments/Problems:
was only offered a choice of kernel image 2.4.27-1-386 or kernel-image 
2.6.8-1-386.  apparently did not appropriately detect
 multiple cpus.

only recognized one of two ATAPI cd-rom drives

except for the two difficulties above, installation was much easier than 
expected.
