Bug#267531: Laptop freezes completely with further notice

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Package: installation-reports
Debian-installer-version: beta4 (http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/
cdimage-testing/sarge_d-i/i386/beta4/sarge-i386-netinst.iso)
uname -a: 2.6.5-1-386
Date: 23-8-2004
Method: Installation from a CD

Machine: Dell D800
Processor: Pentium 4
Memory: 512 Mb
Root Device: IDE

When trying to boot from linux26 or expert26 on the Dell the PC freezes
completely without further notice. The only way to restart the process is to
switch off the laptop.

The freeze happens after loading the modules. The last message on the screen
says the following:

Detecting hardware to find CD-ROM drives
Then a progress bar at 96 %
Starting PC Card services....

I have also tried expert26 unloading all modules. The PC still freezes at the
same point (only the status bar says 4% in that case since I unchecked all
modules).

This stage is acomplished sucessfully with linux24, although I have not
completed the installation since I want a 2.6 kernel on the laptop.

TIA.
