I just tried a new install with the defaults (english/NA IIRC), and this
time, the screen gets corrupted in the middle of the boot process
already (no readable switch to a smaller font) and stays that way when

I don't have a digicam, so doing a screenshot of the Linux console would
be awkward. Basically, the characters seem to be roughly at the right 
position still, but the pixels get garbled so that everything is
completely unreadable.

Adding radeonfb to the blacklist indeed solved this.
