Beta 4 is very old, and I know that current daily builds have fixed many
issues on powerpc. Could you try a current daily?

This is fixed in current dailies.

This should be fixed in current dailies, although I've heard some
worrying reports in the last few days.

Run through the menu and it will. Normally it would do that itself, but
the errors you encountered in the first stage forced it down into expert
mode.

modconf is really a boot-floppies thing.

No, devfsd shouldn't be installed; don't mount devfs on reboot. You
should be fine if you run through base-config properly.
