Bug#258715: debian-installer: fails to enable PCMCIA support

Package: debian-installer
Severity: serious
Version: i386 beta4

Hi,

The Debian Installer beta4 doesn't activate PCMCIA support on my
notebook. My network card is a PCMCIA card, hence the whole
(network-based) installation fails. There was Debian installed there
once before, meaning there must be a way it works.

The last page on vt4 says:
... hw-detect: Starting PCMCIA services: cardmgr is already running.
... hw-detect: Starting PCMCIA services: done.
... hw-detect: Detected PCMCIA, installing pcmcia-cs.
... hw-detect: Detected discover version 1, installing discover1.
... hw-detect: Detected hotplug support, installing hotplug.

The system never beeps, as it was always doing when starting PCMCIA.

If I put in the network card thereafter, it prints:
... cardmgr[...]: socket 0: NE2000 Compatible Ethernet
... cardmgr[...]: executing: 'modprobe pcnet_cs'
... cardmgr[...]: + Using /lib/modules/2.4.25-1-386/kernel/lib/crc32.o
... cardmgr[...]: + Using /lib/modules/2.4.25-1-386/kernel/drivers/net/8390.o
... cardmgr[...]: + Using /lib/modules/2.4.25-1-386/kernel/drivers/net/pcmcia/pcnet_cs.o
... cardmgr[...]: executing: './network start eth0'
... klogd: eth0: NE2000 Compatible: io 0x300, irq 3, hw_addr ...
... cardmgr[...]: + ./wireless: 102: /bin/hostname: not found

Please ask back, if I can provide further information.

Kind regards,

Martin
