for some months prior to this installation attempt
Processor: P4 3.2 GHz
Memory: 2GiB ECC
Root Device: Two disks installed, one 60GB P-ATA on /dev/hda,
and one 160GB S-ATA identified as /dev/sda when libata is functioning

Root Size/partition table:
Stuff printed in partitioning disks (after loading libata modules, see below)

IDE1 master (hda) - 61.4 GB IC35L060AVVA07-0
	#1 primary 61.4 GB ext3

Comments/Problems:

The S-ATA disk is not detected automatically. After manually loading
the modules libata, sd_mod and ata_piix, the S-ATA disk was
detected. However, no volume information was available, although there
were three primary partitions as ext3 and one logical for swap. These
were correctly identified as to the size, but not the partition types
(file system types). I could only select existing partitions to be
included as swap-space, or used for lvm or raid.

If selecting the disk itself in the partitioning menu nothing
happened. After doing so, the same behaviour as described above
persisted.

Trying to use the ext3 partition in hda1, it was correctly identified
but I was unable to select anything useful for it, only the swap, lvm,
and raid choices were available.

I have run Debian sid on this machine for some months, using the
libata patch to some 2.4 kernels. The S-ATA disk then shows up as
/dev/sda. I used the 2.6 kernel on the d-i disk to be able to
continue using libata since I suspect that the 2.4 kernel does not
include the libata patch(?)

Attempting to install with the sarge beta4 110 MB CD failed because
the ata_piix was not available, although the libata and sd_disk
were. Therefore I obtained the 20040517 disk, the most recent when I
tried the install.
