I have made the same mistake last week. The images you have used are known to 
be broken. You can find the right images from:
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer

Also, there have been major changes to D-I since Beta 2, so you could try 
testing a more recent image.

For current images you might run into a problem listed in:
