In fact, it sounds like you're only seeing part of the whole screen, which is not uncommon on some laptops with framebuffer, although not often this bad. Try booting it like this: boot: linux debian-installer/framebuffer=false You might also try a recent daily build instead, as it's possible the newer kernel works better on your hardware. -- see shy jo
