Bug#232355: base-config: Should set LANG in /etc/environment
Package: base-config
Version: 2.11
Severity: wishlist
Tags: l10n
The language/country system now properly works in d-i and thus always
provides a valid locale in debian-installer/locale.
This is debatable, but I propose to set the LANG variable to this locale in
/etc/environment. This setting should be optional.
For avoiding console problem with non Latin languages, I suggest to ask
whether the user wants to set this locale as default for the whole system.
This question should be medium priority for Latin languages (there is no
immediate problem in having the default to anything else than English then)
but maybe high priority for non Latin languages where console problems may
then occur.
Rationale : this would avoid questions like "Why is my GDM/KDM/whatever
using English while I choosed French as language when installing Debian?"
