IMHO: grub just works better.

I have two older mainboards here which have BIOSes that fail
to boot with LILO on various combinations of [hard disk]/[LILO's
linear/lba32/chs mode]. No access setting works for all of them.

grub, on the other hand, has never given me a problem.
