Maybe something like this:

1. In /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf, set:

DELAY=0

2. Then regenerate your ramdisk image, for example:

cd /boot
mkinitrd -o initrd.img-2.4.18-k7 /lib/modules/2.4.18-k7

(This is a guess by reading the docs, I have not tested myself).
