To allow support for kernel modules outside of the initial ramdisk, there's definitely a need for installing the modules to your Linux partition. The kernel image, of course, will be completely ignored, because the Penguin bootloader doesn't read ext2 partitions. How this should influence the boot floppies' handling of kernel images, I'm not sure. Steve Langasek postmodern programmer
