It worked for me without this problem on powerpc, the same version you
used. I don't understand.

hey, if I can do it, anybody can. Seriously. Check out the
boot-floppies cvs, peruse the README, change the config if
you want, make check, install all the supporting programs, and make
release as root.

I believe Lang-Chooser is enabled for powerpc now.

You might want to comment out the other flavors in the main Makefile under 

ifeq ($(architecture), powerpc)
#	$(MAKE) resc1440xxxx.bin driversxxxx.tgz

since that adds a lot of time to the building and you aren't planning
on releasing your result.
