Bug#123391: /target/usr/sbin/modconf: cannot create: directory nonexistant
This rather unhelpful error message is coming from ash. It seems to be
produced if you do this:
# VAR does not exist in the environment
echo xx > $VAR
When it happens, does modconf succeed in adding the newly-selected module
to /etc/modules?
If you can contrive to get bash onto the target system, you might find that
it produces a more enlightening error message. I guess it should work to
install base, then drop to a shell or Alt-F2 and do "/target/bin/bash
/target/usr/sbin/modconf". That might help us figure out where the problem
lies.
