You are correct the boot-floppies are 2.2.12, but the actual kernel
version is 2.2.10  I made the mistake of thinking that the boot-floppies
version corresponeded to the kernel version.  /proc/version reports the
following:

Linux version 2.2.10 (schmitz@zirkon.biophys.uni-duesseldorf.de) (gcc
version 2.7.2.3) #13 Sat Feb 5 15:56:35 CET 2000
