2.2.9 release status

Well, it looks like three nasty dbootstrap problems were fixed
yesterday. This is starting to smell like release time -- it's been a
rough road, here.  In a lot of ways, changes since 2.2.8 felt like a
step back, not forward.  Well, hopefully we learned our lessons.

Anyhow, in my mind the only remaining bad bug is this whole init
crashing issue.  Are there any other stuff which folks think *must*
get into 2.2.9?

I'd like to tag 2.2.9 tonight and release it tonight or tomorrow.
