So, I've uploaded perl-5.005 5.005.03-5 to master:Incoming. Now if I
run that script from my last message, I get:

So, at least that works. Not knowing much about debconf, I don't know
if that's everything though.
I've a plan to write something that processes the Perl scripts on the
boot disks and generates the file that make.base would use instead of it
being generated by hand.
Now that all my various emotional family crises are over, I'll be
spending significantly more time on Debian.
