Strange.  This is the first I've heard of such a problem.  I'll take a
look-see this evening.

In the meantime, it might be a good idea to bypass the multiple CD-ROM
drive selector.  Unfortunately my system with both SCSI and IDE is at
home (not my laptop), so if I can't find something blatantly obviously
wrong I won't be able to test it for a few days.
