Boot Problem on IBM Thinkpad solved

my problem (from my yesterdays note) is solved. I used the boot-image
referenced in bug report Bug#43039 to be found at
ftp://kalle.csb.ki.se/pub/resc1440.bin-only-aic7xxx. And it works OK.

The problem was:
1. I searched for the wrong keyword in the bug reports: 'IBM Thinkpad'
instead of 'Adaptec Adapter'
and
2. I couldn't found the section
>
Rescue Floppy

in the official documentation.

never-the-less, thanks to all, who helped me with lots of notes.

PS: I continued with the installation from my original CD-ROM and - of
course - after the first boot during installation, the same problem comes
back.
My solution was to copy - right before I re-boot - the kernel from the good
diskette image to my hard disk. From a second console <Alt+F2> I did:
cd target
cd boot
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy
cp /floppy/linux .
sync
cd ..
rm vmlinuz
ln -s /boot/linux vmlinuz
lilo <--- do not forget this (costs me some re-boots)
Then was able to finish installation.

PS-2: Because I want to compile my own kernel, I would like to know what is
the difference in the good one from the above ftp site and the non-working
one on the CD-ROM? What components shall I select and which ones not? Any
special settings for the Adaptec adapter?
