The only problem that I know of with wordpress using an old version of
libphp-phpmailer is the one in the original report in this thread.

It is, basically, a problem where plugins (or at least one plugin) expect more
features from libphp-phpmailer and fails to use them because the older version
shipped in jessie doesn't have them.

That I'm aware of, is only one plugin that can't work with the backported
wordpress version. And is not core wordpress, is a plugin. In that regard,
doesn't seem CRITICAL. But I'd like to hear more opinions :-)

Ohh, cool! I'll check to add backports to my cowbuilder and change the
dependencies :)
